How to properly scan and upload your original photographs

1. Use a soft cloth or air can to remove all dust from scanner surface. Also check the original photograph to make sure that it's dust free.

2. Scan the original photograph at 300dpi minimum. If your final print will be larger than a 11x17 or if you're planning to enlarge from your original photo size, you should scan the original photo at 600dpi or higher.

3. Usually the scan will look darker than the original. For best results, use a photo program to adjust the scan to look as close to the original as possible. This is usually accomplished by adjusting the photographs brightness and contrast. If using Adobe Photoshop adjust curves (Image>Adjustments>Curves) lift the middle of the curve to lighten the midtones of the image.

4. While working with the file always save as a pict, tiff, or photoshop file. When you're ready to email the file to Indigo Iris Imaging, save one time as a high quality jpeg. This will keep compression to a minimum.

5. After saving the file as a jpeg you can also stuff or zip the file to lower the file size even more. Your final file size should be under 3megs before emailing. For larger files, you may also mail us a CD.
