tanning tips

why is keeping skin moisturized essential to great tanning results?

Skin loses moisture through the epidermis and sweat glands. Cell renewal and the natural moisturizing factor balances moisture loss. It's necessary for skin to maintain 10 -20% water to avoid dry skin conditions. Dry skin is rough, tight and may show signs of wrinkles. Rough skin appears dull and may also refract light. Moisturisers aim to improve the hydration of the skin and thus make the skin smoother and more elastic which will improve tanning results.

what is hot factor and what does it do to my skin?

Hot Factor increases blood flow by causing the blood vessels in the skin to open up. This increase in blood flow warms the skin and has a reddening effect. Hot Factor only has a temporary effect, its duration depends on the intensity of the product and the sensitivity of the skin. The skin usually responds fairly quickly and this can last from 30 minutes to a few hours.

is hot factor dangerous?

No. Although some people may find it uncomfortable. The main ingredients are also found in lotions that doctors recommend for sore muscles.

what are bronzers and how do they work?

Bronzers are lotions that produce a temporary tan either by containing a tint which will wash off or an ingredient which will cause the skin to tan for 3-5 days or both. They work by causing a reaction with skin proteins that produces brown compounds on the surface of the skin. This takes 2-4 hours and the intensity of the colour depends on the concentration of the active ingredient in the lotion.

why use a bronzer?

Natural tans can take 24-48 hours to develop, where bronzers only take between 2-4 hours and they are also excellent for evening out skin tones.

what is a cooling product?

Cooling products are lotions applied to the skin prior to using a tanning bed. They contain cooling ingredients to counteract the heat from tanning beds. Always carefully wipe hands after application and avoid sensitive areas.
